Project Overview

The site is a coastal hillside in Southeast Asia — steep, forested, and facing west across open water. The climate demands specific responses: deep overhangs, cross-ventilation, materials that age well in humidity. We designed the house as a series of cantilevered timber volumes stepping down the hillside, each one framing a different relationship with the ocean and the trees.

The interior logic is continuous with the exterior — the double-height living space opens entirely to the ocean on two sides, the boundary between inside and outside becoming a question of light and air rather than walls. The materials are honest to the climate: dark timber that will silver with age, stone that holds the cool of the night into the morning.
