Project Overview
The clients wanted a place to think. Not a retreat in the resort sense — a house that asked something of you: attention, stillness, the willingness to sit with the season as it changed. We designed a house around an enclosed gravel courtyard with a raked ground plane, a single timber bench, and two large natural stones placed with the precision of punctuation.
The surrounding timber screen provides enclosure without isolation — you see the trees above the boundary, the light changes through the bamboo slats across the day. The bench is not decorative. It is the spatial event the garden is built around.
