Coastal House

The site sits above a northern estuary — the kind of landscape that makes any intervention feel presumptuous. We designed a two-storey concrete house that earns its presence by accepting the conditions of the place: the fog, the horizontal light, the way the water disappears into the sky on certain mornings.

The building is organised as a compressed lower floor — service spaces, entrance, threshold — and an open upper floor with full-height glazing on three sides. You arrive at the building through the landscape. You arrive at the view only once you are inside. The sequence is the architecture.
